Nonlinear control for MPPT in single-phase grid-connected photovoltaic systems

We are considering the problem of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) in photovoltaic (PV) arrays. The PV power transferred to grid through a controlled (PWM) Boost and inverter power converter. We seek the achievement of two control objectives: (i) maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of PV module as the maximum power point (MPP) varies with solar radiation and temperature. (ii) Unity power factor (PF) in the grid. To meet these objectives a nonlinear controller is proposed. The latter is designed using the backstepping technique based on a nonlinear model describing the dynamics of the whole system. It is formally shown that the developed nonlinear controller actually meets its objectives.
