Courant Stability Number Impact on High Frequency EM Cloaking using FDTD Analysis

Abstract


This paper uses an existing Finite Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) model to study electromagnetic cloaking where different parameters are varied to expand its range from Ultra High Frequency (UHF) to Super High Frequency (SHF) and Extremely High Frequency (EHF). This is achieved by a careful scaling of the simulation parameters according to the frequency and wavelength of the incident wave. For FDTD cloaking, it is recommended that the Cournat Stability Number be maintained below 1. For the model studied here, the valid range of the stability number is obtained to be from 0.125 and 0.7. Using frequency values in the Ultra High Frequency (UHF), Super High Frequency (SHF) and Extremely High Frequency (EHF) ranges the stability number is gradually varied to observe what impact it has on the cloaking process and plot conclusive results
